Report of the Secretary-General: Question of the realisation in all countries of economic, social and cultural rights

In this report, the Secretary-General outlines the linkages between economic, social and cultural rights and the Sustainable Development Goals framework as two converging agendas, and highlights equality, non-discrimination and accountability principles as well as a human rights-based approach to data as key to ensuring the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in a manner consistent with the obligations of States under international law.

Monitoring the Right to Education of Out-of-School Girls in Tanzania

Tanzania has one of the highest child marriage rates in the world. According to the UN Population Fund, 37% of girls are married by age eighteen. In Tanzania, as in many other countries, child marriage usually means the end of a girls’ education. Girls are forced to drop-out of school or else don’t progress to secondary school.

As an integral part of UNESCO’s Constitutional mission for ensuring “full and equal opportunities for education for all”, the realisation of the Right to Education is one of the biggest developmental challenges, as millions of children and adults remain deprived of basic education in today’s learning societies.

Combating Discrimination in Education: Guidelines for the Preparation of Reports, Ninth Consultation of Member States on the Application of the Convention and Recommendation Against Discrimination in Education

These Guidelines are intended to assist Member States in the preparation of the Reports on the implementation of the 1960 Convention against Discrimination in Education (“the Convention”) as well as the 1960 Recommendation against Discrimination in Education (“the Recommendation”). The Convention and the Recommendation, adopted by UNESCO’s General Conference in 1960, correspond to UNESCO’s constitutional mandate to “advance the ideal of equality of educational opportunities without regard to race, sex or any distinctions, economic or social”.

La promoción de los derechos en las escuelas: ofreciendo educación publica de calidad

Con el objetivo de facilitar la participación activa de padres, niños y niñas, profesores y profesoras, sindicatos, comunidades y organizaciones locales de la sociedad civil en el seguimiento colectivo y la mejora de la calidad de la educación pública, Promoviendo los Derechos en las Escuelas o PRS  por sus siglas en inglés (Promoting Rights in Schools) ofrece un conjunto de herramientas prácticas que pueden ser utilizadas como base para la movilización, abogacía, incidencia y campañas.

Convention relative aux droits de l'enfant

La Convention relative aux droits de l'enfant (CIDE) s'applique aux enfants de moins de 18 ans. Elle reconnaît l'éducation comme un droit à chaque enfant sur la base de l'égalité des chances. Son article 28 garantit la gratuité de l'enseignement primaire obligatoire pour tous, la gratuité progressive de l'enseignement secondaire qui devrait en tout état de cause être disponible et accessible à tous, et l'accessibilité à l'enseignement supérieur en fonction des capacités. Il énonce l'obligation de l'État de prendre des mesures concernant la fréquentation scolaire.
